Safely and effectively collecting valuable medical devices for reprocessing or remanufacturing is an important component to the success of your program. Stryker has developed very effective and user-friendly collection systems that are tailored to each clinical area where device collection takes place. Additionally, Stryker has designed a collection awareness program to maximize environmental and financial results of your reprocessing/remanufacturing program.
Stryker's collection systems adhere to all federal Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping regulations and state requirements. Our unique collection awareness program increases facility-wide adoption by providing a variety of reminder and results posters, containers and signage that positively reinforce the financial and environmental benefits. Stryker's dedicated field service representatives sort, pack and ship collected devices, freeing in-house hospital personnel to focus on what they do best—care for patients.
Since operating rooms are busy and dynamic places which pose increased challenges to collection, Stryker offers two distinct and specifically designed collection systems for the Operating Room environment: Advantage™ and ORSelect™. (For other areas of the hospital such as the EP Lab, GI Lab, CVOR, etc., we offer additional collection systems.)
Advantage™ is an O.R.-based collection system that is convenient, simple to use and well received by staff. This program supports the hospital’s environmental initiatives and provides collection for devices that can be reprocessed or remanufactured. Advantage™ ensures maximum device collection by replacing the OR’s large red sharps container with Stryker’s collection container and a small, standard sharps container currently used by the hospital in other areas. Using this set-up, we collect more devices that can be reprocessed or remanufactured, as well as also many other recyclable materials - while still separating out true medical "sharps."
Participating hospitals realize a 70%-80% reduction in operating room medical waste disposal costs and significantly reduce the amount of medical waste going into landfills by thousands of pounds per year. As a result of using Advantage™, the hospital enhances its environmental stewardship in its community. The combined cost savings from not purchasing large red sharps containers, and the reduction in waste removal cost, provide savings within the first few months.
Savings Direct is a program that enables healthcare organizations to manage their reprocessing programs internally, and is designed to support their efforts to reduce supply costs and environmental impact. Healthcare organizations that participate in Savings Direct drive collection and shipment of single-use devices (SUDs) to potentially maximize their savings.
