Sustainability Through Reprocessing

Medical Device Reprocessing | How It Works | Collections

By continuously pioneering sustainability initiatives in healthcare, Stryker Sustainability Solutions has become a leader in the medical device industry. Stryker’s programs target inefficient practices to reclaim and redirect consumable and financial resources to promote healthy and responsible hospitals. During the past 20 years Stryker’s customers have collectively eliminated an estimated 24 million pounds of waste and reduced in excess of $1 billion in supply costs. In 2012 alone, our hospital partners eliminated 7.6 million pounds from local landfills and realized a record $243,600,000 in supply cost and waste savings.

Our collection systems are tailored to each clinical area where collections for reprocessable devices take place, and they meet all federal and state regulations. Stryker collection systems are compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping regulations. Our unique collection awareness program increases facility-wide adoption by providing a variety of value, reminder and results posters, containers and signage that positively reinforce the financial and environmental benefits. With our collection systems and awareness tools, Stryker’s dedicated field service representatives sort, pack and ship collected devices—and provide staff with the necessary education, freeing in-house hospital personnel to do what they do best—care for patients.

Operating rooms are busy and dynamic places, potentially making collection challenging. Stryker offers two distinct and specifically designed collection systems for the Operating Room environment: Advantage™ and OnSite Select™. (For other areas of the hospital such as the EP Lab, GI Lab, CVOR, etc., we offer additional collection systems.)
